Dubai Health Authority (DHA) was established in 1972 as a government entity that aims to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitation services to community members in accordance with international quality standards.

In line with the future vision and strategic plan of the Emirate of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a law in 2007 to transform the Department of Health and Medical Services to the Dubai Health Authority in order to provide an effective and integrated health system to achieve the vision. In 2018, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, adopted as the Ruler of Dubai the Law No. 6 of 2018 on the Health Authority in Dubai with the aim of enabling it to achieve its objectives in the field of regulating the health sector in the Emirate to ensure Competitiveness, operational efficiency and quality of services provided.

In 2018, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, adopted Council Resolution No. (18) of 2018, approving the new organizational structure of the Dubai Health Authority to support its competitiveness and enable it to achieve its goals to achieve a healthier society. The organization's organizational structure comprises two new institutions: the Dubai Healthcare Corporation and the Dubai Health Insurance Corporation. It also includes three key sectors: strategy and institutional development, health regulation and joint institutional support services.

The DHA supervises four hospitals, 12 primary health care centers, 17 medical fitness centers in Dubai and six specialized centers.
